I too spent an extended phone call to VZ customer service the other day.  They nor NTC will confirm any release date, if any, for the 2.1.  The rep kept telling me that they will continue to market the Eris along with the Incredible.  That the Incredible was not a replacement for the Eris.  They also said that the update was coming out..... how many dates did they say.  Hmmmm.. Should they be believed?

While it is true, most of us signed a 2 year contract, I do believe that Verizon could be held accountable for marketing a faulty product and not doing anything about it.

Forget the promises of navigation and other improvements.  The Eris has issues of problems.  All one has to do it read the forums to find this to be true.

If they can't or won't fix my Eris, I would expect an upgrade to a phone that does work.  If they put out a faulty product then they need to be held accountable for that issue.

Yes, the phone for what works on it is a great phone.  But I along with others have issues with the things that do not work on the phone.  If I pay for something along with paying for a month fee, I expect it to work all the time.

I understand that phone service is related to area, weather, and other issues.  But that  should have nothing to do with the phone system working at 100%.  Should it?

Your last statement answer your own question. That would be why phone service would not work 100% and I don't know of ANY network that guarntees 100% uptime anyway. What problems are you referring too? What existing issues? Navigation? BT? Need to be more specific. These issues would be related between both the OS and the manufacturer of the phone not verizon. Each phone with that OS has the same issues. It isn't sprints, verizon or at&ts fault. It is a new OS for the phones. I think all phones except smartphones are crippled, but that is my opinion there. Be specific. I can tell if you if it is resolved in 2.1(leaked versionat least)

I so tire of these threads :smileysad: ; so much energy expended with little gain.

I personally think the Eris will have at least one more update. I say this not because of "promises" or "marketing", but only because of the 1 year warranties on the phones. If 2.1 doesn't OTA to us, then I'm sure we'll get a few more patches here and there just like any other newly released phone (my wife's Rogue just got one recently).

Verizon will have to choose between customers returning the phone because of issues or releasing fixes to stem those returns. It about numbers really, not "doing whats right" or whatever terms us forum monsters decide to use. If the return rate is low, why expend $$ to push a huge 2.1 update that will probably have issues as well?

Numbers/Money.<period>

This is why hackers exist... they'll prob keep modding the firmware for the next 2 years (ie: European Hero).

Honestly, us forum lurkers are probably way less then .1% of the market share for Eris owners and those other 99.9% either accept the phone the way it is or returned it within 30 days.

If your here daily (like me) because your dieing for the 2.1... wait or do the UPGRADE yourself!

Peace! :smileywink:

Umm you're wrong about no one has stated that the eris is getting the 2.1 update. The CEO for HTC confirmed it on February 16 2010. phandroid.com/2010/02/16/htc-droid-eris-hero-getting-android-2-1/ Now I would be very angry if Verizon doesn't push this to the Eris owners. Bc I was another duped customer that was originally gonna buy the Motorola Droid & was talked Into the Eris by the Verizon representative in fact he was very persistent that I go with the Eris bc of the 2.1 update. I will be very angry if HTC & Verizon decide to forget about the Eris userbase. If u are promised something then they need to honor their promises. There are a lot of Eris + Hero owners who have been patitently waiting for this update since November. It would be almost a slap in the face if this doesn't get pushed to the phone. I'm almost positive I read somewhere else that every android phone is getting 2.1. They even have chart with the % of all the droid phones with the OS & the phones that are still waiting to get it.

I wonder who from Verizon reads this forum and whether anybody really cares about the Eris folks who Verizon kept on board with many promises last Christmas?

I don't think they do, and no one promised you anything.

As noted above the HTC CEO did, but they weren't time specific.

Where in that article did the HTC CEO "promise" it?

"HTC CEO Peter Chou today confirmed that the HTC Droid Eris for Verizon, the HTC Hero for Sprint, and the HTC Hero for European markets will all be getting upgrades to Android 2.1. In addition, those phones with HTC Sense will be getting the improvements – such as Helicopter view – pushed to their phones." He didn't use the word promise, if that is what you mean. He only said it would get 2.1 to the world, but your right he didn't say he promised.

See the diction used means everything. "Promising" something means that you are bound to it. Especially as a company. Confirming just means they can aknowledge that it exists, that their intentions will be to deliver it, but if anything comes up they'll let us know.

It's all in the wording, guys.
