Droid Turbo 2 not seeing one Message+ response

Yesterday morning I was texting (MMS) with my two son's and exchanges were fine, complete.  I went for a drive with my phone connected to my Ford Escape with Android Auto.  At some point during the drive I was notified there was a text message, but I couldn't get Android Auto to play it so just 'cleared' the notification.  When I got home several hours later, on my iPad I found a Message+ response from my son that he was quarantined at home, received during the time I was on the road.  I went back to my phone and the message still was not there. I uninstalled/removed updates and reinstalled it but the 'quarantine' response still doesn't show up. I logged into the desktop web page access and the 'quarantine' response IS THERE.

Why or what would cause my Droid Turbo 2's Message+ app not be displaying a particular message in a string of messages?  Doesn't it get the messages from the server when the app starts up as the web page access would or the iPad app?

UPDATE:

Working with Andy at Tech Support, we found that doing a Conversations->Settings->Account->Restore Messages-> Restore from Online caused my phone to re-sync messages with the server and the problem MMS message now shows up.  It looks like Android Auto/Ford Sync not being able to Play the incoming message somehow caused my phone to lose the message instead of completing the sync-with-the-server process.  Maybe they have an issue with MMS messages and I'll be monitoring my messages when in my car to see if there are SMS/MMS differences.  I've posted this issue on the Google Android Auto Forum to see what comes up there.

Maybe this will help others with similar issues.
