I've had my S4 for about a month now and all of a sudden tonight when I went to use my camera, a purple smear showed up on the screen and now it's showing up on all my photos when I take them. How do I fix this?

Can you view one of your pictures on a computer screen? Is the purple smear still on the photo? If the smear isn't on your photo when viewed on a PC, your phone screen is likely going bad.

Yes, if I upload an image to my computer it shows up. After doing some
research it's looking like it's becoming more and more of a problem for the
S4's. It doesn't happen on the S5's or S3's. It seems like it's an issue
with the sensor in the camera or something. I brought it into Best Buy and
had one of the Samsung reps look at it and he thought it might be a
hardware issue.

Thanks for the additional information, Peterose313. Has the phone been soft reset (power off/on)? As far as you can tell, it is only purple with the camera? Does it stay that way when camera settings are adjusted?

Yes, I've done a soft reset and the issue still appears. The purple is only
when I use the camera. I've seen reports of people having it show up in
other areas too but for me it's strictly with the camera. I've tried
adjusting the settings but it doesn't make any difference. If you would
like I can show you a sample photo to get a better understanding as to what
I'm talking about.

Thank you for your reply! To confirm does the lens appears free of dirt, lint and fingerprints? Does this also occur when using the front facing camera?
Thank you,

No. It's just the rear facing camera. I've tried cleaning the lens if
debris and dirt and it still doesn't go away.

Peterose313 Thank you for the details. Please try these steps: go to settings and application manager. In the section where you see al apps, select the "camera" then tap clear cahce, clear data and force stop. After that's done, restart the phone and retest.

Won't I lose everything on the sd card by clearing the data?

I'm glad you're sharing your concerns, Peterose313! But no, clearing the cache will not impact the contents of your SD memory card.
