Unlimited Data Policy

When I signed up with Verizon many years ago I was happy to pay for Data long before many even had it.  I have been with Verizon in one form or another since Verizon purchased AirTouch in Orange County California.  Yes, I had a bag phone and a 3 watt DiamondTel handheld back then.  Now I have a Note II and had to pay for it since I was told I would lose my unlimited data plan if I chose to upgrade as I had in many years past with the same plan.  I'm not sure what bean counter thought this was a good idea but it has gotten me to think about switching myself, mother in law, and my wife to another company that offers unlimited data at a lower cost.  I like the service I get with Verizon although I don't receive 4g about 75% of the time and its slower than snot on 3g.

With Sprint and now Straight Talk offering unlimited data, my $140 per month plan that I pay just for me is not looking so attractive, especially when I don't feel welcome at Verizon.  Not being able to upgrade is a clear tactic to drive me off my plan with the carrot of getting a phone at a discount.

I don't understand why I am being treated differently.  Obviously you have earned a great deal of money from me over the years I deserve to be treated just like others.  Whats funny is that a new person that has never even been on Verizon is treated with more respect and given a discount on a phone when I am not.

I like the unlimited data because I dont have to worry about going over.  I pay for peace of mind.

Please reconsider your policy and treat people like me with the same respect you do for others not on the unlimited plan.  Its obvious that if Im on the plan I have been with you a while and you are profiting from me on every month I pay.  All Im asking for is what other currently get.  Equality for all.

Thanks

What discount are new customers getting that you would not?  You only lose your unlimited data if you upgrade to a device at the two year pricing - the SAME two year pricing new customers would pay.  In fact new customers have to pay a 35.00 activation fee where existing customers instead pay the cheaper 30.00 upgrade fee.

You can be some joker who has never spent a dime with Verizon and sign up and get a subsidized phone.  I cant.  Thats a far cry from the $5 you point out.

It's all about the MONEY, man. Nothing but the MONEY. Upgrade fees, data overages of $10, $15, per gig, or even $20 for 300 Meg if they can get away with it, $50 for 1 GIG data on the Share Plans, $40 access fees for nothing but a big fat bill pad to increase profit margins past 50% to please investors. Tethering charges. No other country but US has carriers that charge for tethering over and above the base charges for data.

20 years of loyalty is not going to exempt you from current policies no matter how much you dislike them.  Data caps and forcing customers onto them by implementing sleazy upgrade policies and fees has nothing whatsoever to do with network management or congestion, but everything to increasing subscriber ARPU.  Verizon's CFO has been quoted as saying "Data is the new Oil."  And we all know how the Oil Industry bends us all over with gas going from $0.25 cents a gallon to $3-5 / gallon over the last 40 years.

A new customer also has no option to choose unlimited data - the ONLY option available (even if the new customer were to bring their own phone!!) is Share Everything, tiered data.

You CAN get a subsidized phone.

You will have to make a CHOICE, though, if you want a subsidized phone or your unlimited data. Verizon is only allowing you to choose one.

And to pay for that peace of mind with Verizon, you will now have to pay full retail for a cellular device.

Call Verizon Executive customer service.  They will give you a month of service free.

Unlikely.  Why do they deserve a free month of service? because they disagree with a policy change that has been in place for over a year?

I just got a free month of service.  Anyone who will be losing their "Grandfathered" Unlimited Data is subject to a month of free service.

Perhaps you were able to get that. It doesn't mean every customer in a similar situation is liable to get the same deal. Not everyone has access to the "Verizon Executive customer service". If anything they only offered it as retention tactic to keep you as a customer.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
