Activating new SIM card for existing phone

Because I was having reception issues, Verizon sent me a new SIM card for my Galaxy Nexus. When I put the card in my phone, it simply stopped getting a 4G signal (sometimes there is a very weak 3G signal - no bars), and when I attempt to make calls, I get asked if I want to call collect.

The directions that came with the new SIM card didn't mention anything about activating the card - it just said to put it in the phone. Do I still need to do something else in order to get the new SIM card to work with my existing phone/phone number/plan?

You may need to go online or call customer service and designate the sim card number to that line for it to activate properly.  And yes, it does need to be activated to the line before you will have 4g or voice service.

On this page it says:

To activate your SIM card, dial (877) 807-4646 from any phone and follow the prompts to activate your 4G LTE service.

However, I don't have access to a working phone right now. Do you know where/how I can activate the SIM card myself online?
