Clear App Cache and Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps doesn’t work as intended, freezes, crashes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache and/or data.

WARNING! When clearing an app’s data, all personal data stored within the app will be deleted. This includes user profiles and save files, high scores, settings, login and credit card information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “Apps
  3. Select the desired application and tap “Storage
  4. Tap “Clear cache” to clear the app’s cache
  5. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” (check WARNING above)

Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, you can try fixing the issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition instead. This can yield results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data stored on the device’s internal memory.

  1. Turn the phone OFF
  2. Press and hold “Home” and “Volume Up” simultaneously, and then press and hold “Power” too
  3. At the “Android” logo, release all buttons and wait for up to 60 seconds for the Android System Recovery menu
  4. In the Recovery menu, press “volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe data / factory reset
  5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  6. Press “Volume down” to highlight “wipe cache partition” and press “Power
  7. Highlight “Yes” using the volume buttons and press “Power” again to confirm
  8. After the cache is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power

NOTE: In case clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the issues, you can try factory resetting the device instead. Visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes problems and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.

  1. First ensure the phone is powered OFF
  2. Next, press and hold “Power” past the model name screen
  3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. After the phone finishes rebooting, release “Volume down”. NOTE: A “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, first open “Settings
  6. Then go to “Apps
  7. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall” two times to confirm
  8. To exit Safe Mode, press and hold “Power” and then tap “Restart” in the pop-up
