How to suspend and reconnect your Verizon Wireless service

Temporarily suspending your service is sometimes necessary, but it’s never difficult with Verizon.

 

You might need to temporarily stop your Verizon Wireless service at some point. Perhaps your phone is missing and you want to make sure no one else uses your line. No matter the case, with Verizon it’s easy to temporarily suspend your service and then get it turned on later.

Once you are signed in to your My Verizon account, you’ll be able to make changes to your service. You can also access your account with the My Verizon Mobile app.

There are three reasons you can choose to suspend your device’s service: if it’s lost or stolen, if you relocate because of the military, or other.

Lost or Stolen Suspension

If your device has been lost or stolen, you can choose to suspend at a $10 per month reduced rate with full billing, or without billing if you haven’t previously used this option in the previous 12 months. Your line will automatically reconnect after 30 days. If you’re suspending service because your device is missing, you’ll probably want to let Verizon know that it’s no longer in your possession. This will prevent your device from being activated on another line. Doing so will also give you the ability to file an insurance claim.

Military Suspension

If you are in the military and receive an order to relocate to a location where Verizon Wireless service is unavailable, you can suspend your line for the period of your relocation, or up to 3 years and 90 days. You will not be billed for service or device payments during this time, however once you reconnect your device payments will continue.

Other Voluntary Suspension

If your suspend reason is not for a lost/stolen device or for military deployment, you can choose other. You have the option of suspending with full billing, or at a reduced rate of $10 per month for up to 90 days per rolling 12 months. If you choose to suspend at a reduced rate, your service contract will be extended for the length of time you suspend for. If you’re on device payment, you will continue to be billed for your device while you’re suspended.

Your line will automatically reconnect after 30 days if you indicate your device has been stolen or lost, and after 90 days for other reasons. If you want to reconnect service before it’s set to automatically reconnect, just log in to your account at verizonwireless.com/reconnect and follow the steps indicated. If you subscribe to Equipment Protection, coverage continues throughout the suspension period regardless of your decision to suspend with or without billing. This includes Total Mobile Protection.
